Steven P. Sikalis, O.D., received his Doctor of Optometry from the New England College of Optometry. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Boston College.

While studying Biology, Dr. Sikalis understood the workings of the entire human body. He then focused on the health and visual functions of the eye through optometry. Dr. Sikalis feels his education has allowed him to offer you and your family a complete perspective on total vision health.

In his own words, Dr. Sikalis says, “Every person is unique. That’s why I make it a point to get to know you individually. Everyone has special needs, from computer work to sports vision.  You can always count on the personal attention you deserve. I’ll listen to your concerns and work with you to provide the best possible solutions.”
One of the first optometrists in the state to receive his therapeutic license to treat eye disease, Dr. Sikalis continually keeps his education current. If a new treatment is available, his patients are the first to have it.

Dr. Sikalis holds membership with the New England Council of Optometrists, the American Optometric Association, the International Society of Refractive Surgeons, and the Massachusetts Society of Optometrists, where he was the 1st Vice-President.

Stephen J. Harney, O.D., F.A.A.O., received his Doctor of Optometry from the New England College of Optometry in 1978. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire, in 1974.
He did post-doctoral clinical training in specialty contact lenses at Korb Associates in Boston, Massachusetts. He was the head of the Contact Lens Department at the former Leahey Eye Clinic, Inc., Lowell, Massachusetts.

As an Optometrist, Dr. Harney is skilled in the field of cornea and contact lenses, having proven competence by becoming a diplomate in the section of Cornea and Contact Lenses of the American Academy of Optometry in 1997. Dr. Harney is also interested in sports vision and laser vision consultation.

With years of medically-related experience, Dr. Harney has also learned to handle complex optometric medical cases. These include contact lenses, dry eyes, pediatric and geriatric care (with emphasis on pathological diagnosis and management), and co-management of laser vision refractive surgical cases.

Dr. Harney is an enthusiastic sportsman and fan and devoted to his family. He enjoys golfing, skiing, and hockey when not treating patients. He also enjoys spending time with his wife and their three children.

Christopher Karalekas, O.D. (“Dr. K”) received his Doctor of Optometry from the New England College of Optometry in 1994. He earned his Bachelor of Science cum laude in Biology from Providence College in 1990.

Dr. K completed clinical internships at the Dorchester House Neighborhood Health Center in Dorchester, Massachusetts, and the V.A. Medical Centers in Portland, Oregon, and West Haven, Connecticut. He continued his post-doctoral education by completing a low-vision rehabilitation and primary care residency at the Eastern Blind Rehabilitation Center, located at the V.A. Hospital in West Haven.

After completing his residency, Dr. K worked in group ophthalmology/optometry practices in Lowell and Burlington, Massachusetts, for 12 years before becoming a partner in the group optometric practice here at Advanced Eye Care Associates, along with Dr. Harney and Dr. Sikalis. Dr. K has a particular interest in primary care optometry and low-vision rehabilitation. He also enjoys fitting contact lenses, managing dry eye and macular degeneration, and providing surgical co-management of cataract and refractive surgeries. In 2021, he also completed a certification course to control glaucoma and prescribe oral therapeutics for eye disease.

Dr. K loves the personal relationships he has built with his patients during his career and is committed to providing comprehensive eyecare to all his patients. He is a widower, losing his husband Bob to cancer in 2022. He is a proud member of the Massachusetts and American Optometric Associations and is very proud of his Greek heritage. He cherishes spending time with family and friends. He is also a theater enthusiast and has been seen onstage in several community theater productions in the area. Dr. K also considers gardening and biking as his favorite pastimes.
