Doctor Andrew Mattson began Lakeville Family Eye Care in November, 2005. His practice provides services for primary eyecare, advanced care, cataract & LASIK co management, and advanced contact lens fittings. After graduating from Apple Valley High School , Doctor Mattson earned his B.S. degree in Physics from the University of Minnesota – Duluth. He then performed three years of graduate school in Biochemistry at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities before obtaining his Doctorate in Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in the spring of 2001.
While in optometry school, Doctor Mattson was inducted into the Tomb & Key Optometric Honor Fraternity (based on character, leadership and success in optometric studies) and the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society (based on academic excellence). In addition, he received the Robert C Morrow Scholarship (based on professional promise and academic achievement), and the Exceptional Tudor Award (based on his efforts as a tutor and/or teaching assistant in the areas of sensory, color vision, binocular vision, biochemistry, and ophthalmic optics). Doctor Mattson also participated in vision screenings for inner city school children and vision awareness programs. Doctor Mattson obtained clinical honors at the Illinois Eye Institute in low vision. He achieved honors during his externships in the treatment of Ocular Disease at the Wolfe Clinic ( Ames, IA ), Pediatric & Binocular Vision Disorders at the Black Hills Regional Eye Institute ( Rapid City, SD ), and in Primary Care at the VA Medical center (White River Junction, VT).
Doctor Mattson and his wife Chialing have enjoyed Madelynn (born 2005) and their newest addition Leo (born 2007). Dr Mattson plays on a local fastpitch team. Doctor Mattson is excited to be back to Lakeville and the South Metro Area as his great great grandfather originally settled in Lonsdale, MN from what is now the Czech Republic. He still has family in the area to this day and has a particular penchant for Kolachke.
Doctor Kevin Cassin began at Lakeville Family Eye Care in September 2020. He provides services for primary eye care, ocular disease, pediatric eye care, contact lens fittings, refractive and cataract surgery co-management, and emergency eye care. After graduating from Eastview High School in Apple Valley, Dr. Cassin received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology, Society, and the Environment from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. He then received his doctor of optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in 2014 where he served as Class President, was a member of the Gold Key and Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Societies and was inducted into the Tomb and Key Optometric Honor Fraternity (based on character, leadership and excellence in academic optometric studies), received the Colleague of the Year Award, and graduated Magna Cum Laude. As an optometry student, he pursued his passion for volunteering and providing eye care to those less fortunate on a mission trip to Morocco.
While he enjoys all aspects of optometry, Dr. Cassin is particularly interested in the treatment and management of ocular disease and fitting contact lenses. He completed a residency in ocular disease from the Huntington VA Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia where he gained valuable experience in the treatment and management of eye diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. Following residency, he has practiced at multiple private optometry practices focused on medical optometry. He is an active member of the American Optometric Association and the Minnesota Optometric Association.
Dr. Cassin and his wife Alyssa have two beautiful daughters Olivia and Virginia and he enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, running, and cooking. Dr. Cassin and his family are excited to join Lakeville and Burnsville Family Eye Care and to serve the Lakeville and surrounding community.
Doctor Brandon Koupal began at Lakeville/Burnsville Family Eye Care in July of 2023. He provides services for primary eye care, ocular disease, pediatric eye care, contact lens fittings, refractive and cataract surgery co-management, and emergency eye care.
After Graduating from Elk Point-Jefferson Hight School in South Dakota, Dr. Koupal attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for his undergraduate studies and received a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in biology. He attended his graduate school at Midwestern University in Glendale Arizona and graduated with his doctorate in the spring of 2023. In his final year of school, he did various rotations specializing in ocular disease, ophthalmology, and primary care.
Dr. Koupal is passionate about optometry as a whole but has a special interest in primary care and disease management. He is eager to continue providing high quality patient care in the early stages of his career, and getting to enjoy living in the Midwest again. Dr. Koupal and his wife Jessica keep an active lifestyle golfing, walking trails with their dog, and finding new things to do around the area.
